This nature reserve offers many bicycle and hiking routes. These bicycle and hiking routes are easily combined using the bicycle and hiking network Twente.

There are also a range of excursions that are being organized by Staatsbosbeheer (the Forestry Commission) and one of the oldest private museums of The Netherlands: "nature museum/diorama De Holterberg". Among many other things, they allow you to go for morning hikes and to spot birds while guided by an experienced forester. Special themed excursions for children are also being organized.
The Holterberg also offers a good range of catering facilities.
